Membership registration

Every player must be registered on Spond before the start of the league season.

Club member registration — 2026/27

We partner with Spond to provide the club membership system, including payment of the club registration fee. Your team's coach will send you an invitation to join the club's Spond group; registration and payment both happen there.

The fee can be paid as a single lump sum or spread over five instalments.

Before the season starts

All players must be registered on Spond before the start of the league season. A player who is not registered cannot be selected for a league fixture.

Registering a player who is new to the club

For a player who has not been at West Kirby United before, the club needs four things. Give them to your child's coach:

  • Their FA Number (FAN) — the FA explains how to create or check one
  • Their date of birth
  • A head and shoulders photograph
  • Proof of identity, to verify the photograph and the date of birth

There are two registration options in Spond: single-team, which is the standard one, and dual-team if your child plays for two West Kirby United teams across Saturday and Sunday.

Playing outside their age group

If your child plays outside their own age group, it is the parent or carer's responsibility to apply to the FA for a dispensation, and to send proof of it to the coach and the committee's registration officer.

It is a slow process and it has to be done again every year, so start early. The FA explains what player dispensation is and how to apply.

What your fees cover

The club is run by volunteers and is a registered charity. Fees go back into the football.

Maintaining the pitches

The club runs and maintains a variety of different sites and a large number of pitches. That means grass cutting, pitch marking, fertilising, verti-draining, feed and weed, and everything that goes with it — plus goals, respect barriers and corner flags.

Registration

We pay registration costs for teams and for players, and the insurance that goes with them.

Rent

We hold leases and licences on a number of our school sites, and pay an annual hire cost for them.

Coaches

We pay for DBS checks and for a large amount of coaching courses and badges. The club even provides coaches with kit sometimes.

Teams

Teams can qualify for a trophy or tournament allowance, and are supplied with balls, bibs, first aid kits, cones and the rest.

If the fees are difficult

Where there is genuine hardship and the fees cannot be afforded, the committee can waive some or all of them for the season.

We are always open to applications, and they are dealt with sensitively. Email Winston, the club treasurer, at winston@westkirbyunited.co.uk — nobody outside the committee needs to know.
